cyberspace and attraction

Can you really be attracted to someone in cyberspace? How can that be realistic? Don't you naturally project only good/nice things at the person on the other end of the computer because really you don't know who they are so you make them to be as you wish they were? I know it happens but I am just wondering how it works. What are the rules in cyberspace?
